About Denzel Westley-Sanderson
Denzel Westley-Sanderson is a London-based theatre director and workshop leader known for his innovative storytelling. Denzel's journey began at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, where he honed his craft before delving into the UK's theatre scene.
From his time at the Almeida Theatre as part of the resident directors’ pool to collaborations with the National Theatre and the Barbican working on the Tony award-winning show A Strange Loop, Denzel has made his mark across various genres, including New Writing, Musicals, Opera, Devising, and Dance theatre. His work has been recognised with awards, including the prestigious RTST Sir Peter Hall Directing Award.
His production "Identity" with CTC Dance Company was a standout at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, earning the award for 'Exciting New Work'. Denzel's UK tour of "The Importance of Being Earnest" garnered nominations for Best Director at the Stage Debut Awards and 5 nominations at the Black British Theatre Awards including Best Production.
As the Sky Arts Associate Artist at Theatre Royal Stratford East, Denzel directed their annual pantomime, written by Anna Jordan which received nominations at the Pantomime Awards 23/24. Denzel has held a place on the board of trustees for Frantic Assembly since 2022
